Municipal General Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023

CITY OF SUMMERVILLE PUBLIC NOTICE The City of Summerville will hold a Municipal General Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. To fill the expired terms of the City of Summerville Council Seat #3, Council Seat #4, and Council Seat #5. Advance and Absentee voting for the November 7, 2023, Municipal General Election will begin on Monday, October 16, 2023, and continue until Friday, November 3, 2023, at Summerville City Hall, located at 120 Georgia Ave, Summerville, GA 30747, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Advance voting will also be available on Saturday, October 21, 2023, and Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Summerville City Hall between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Applications for Absentee Ballots must be received by Friday, October 27, 2023. The last day to register to vote in the Municipal Election is Monday, October 10, 2023. The polls will open on election day, Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. A runoff, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Summerville City Hall. Accepting Sealed Bids for Right of Way Mowing

SEALED BID NOTICE The City of Summerville is accepting bids for the following: Mowing and cleaning approximately 29 miles of Natural Gas right-of way beginning in Floyd County and ending in Chattooga County. A map of the area can be picked up in the Public Works & Utilities Directors office Monday through Friday between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. All work shall be carried through completion without unreasonable delays and without suspension of work unless authorized in writing by the City of Summerville and is to be completed prior to December 4, 2023. A drug-free workplace will be provided for the contractor’s employees during the performance of the project. Any signs test stations or other appurtenances damaged during mowing and cleaning will be deducted from the agreed upon price of the project. All bids shall include a signed contractor affidavit and a 5% bid bond. Said bids must be sealed with the words “RIGHT-OF-WAY MOWING AND CLEANING SEALED BID” written across the outside of the envelope and received in the office of the Utilities Director located at 166 Cox St, Summerville, GA 30747 on or before 5:00 pm, October, 9th 2023, at which time bids will be opened and read aloud. City of Summerville Job Announcement Part Time Temporary Street Maintenance Worker JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for assisting the Street Department with daily duties. MAJOR DUTIES  Assists with constructing, maintaining, and repairing city streets, rights-of-way, bridges, ditches and drainage systems  Assists in driveway maintenance  Operates a variety of hand and power tools  Patches streets  Assists in the repair and installation of street signs; places barricades  Cleans ditches and drainage systems  Mows rights-of-way and other City property  Weed eating  Trims trees and bushes  Collects yard waste  Installs banners and holiday decorations  Performs related duties PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT  The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.  The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  High school diploma or equivalent experience.  Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.  Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
